FLAG US if you see any person or organization exhibiting traits and characteristics that can only be described as Elitism or if they are spreading Elitist Misinformation against the People. To understand what an Elitist is, it may help to look, in general, at some of the leading AIMS of Elitism in all of its various forms.
The 22 Aims of Elitism
William R Collier Jr.
As you consider these 22 aims of Elitists keep in mind, they are not exhaustive and that someone or a group that seems to favor many of these aims may do so only on a limited basis and may have no real intent to create some form of tyranny.
The point is not that everyone who we may say embraces many of these aims IS a tyrant, or even a full-fledged elitist, they may think they are populist.
The real point is that whenever a group or an individual seems to be, on balance, pursuing a lot of these aims, regardless of their INTENT, they are in fact pursuing Elitist aims and if or when these things take root in even a “small” way they will TEND over time to move towards outright Elitism followed by petty Despotism, Petty Tyranny, Tyranny, and Authoritarianism.
The reader may have ideas to improve the language or you may have your own items to add, please feel free to post them as comments here.
If the reader has specific examples of any groups, candidate, official, or etc. doing anything like or advocating anything like these things, post these examples with proof in the form of links to original sources.
1. Unification As The Highest Good- some form of pan-nationalistic or other form of Imperialism, including, for instance, racial unification, class unification, regional unification, or what have you which entails a central power having a preponderance of authority and power
2. Extra-National Control Of Land/National Resources- in general, this can mean the need for land for “living space” or control over land, especially across national borders, for other purposes including racial wellness or unity, land for the peasant’s, or land to be managed for the common or even the good of the earth
3. Removal of Legal Constraints To Power - whether a legalistic document is a treaty or a constitution, any notion that some previous agreement is binding on the collective will of the people or the regime or what have you is refuted, if not openly, as with disavowal of a previous treaty, then covertly, as with “judicial reinterpretation”
4. Limited citizenship or electoral powers- citizenship authority based on race or political reliability or class, as opposed to qualifications based on objective standards of conduct which ANY natural born or naturalized citizen can meet, which can be official, as with Jim Crowe laws, or unofficial, as with demonizing and marginalizing anyone who does not fit the mold of acceptability
5. Anti-Semitism or other forms of racism- where one race is seen as superior and other inferior, where one nation is treated differently then others and held to different standards, or racialism in which one race is seen to be bad, evil, or in some other way corrupt for past sins which require some form of reparations or suffering in kind by the present generation, even if they were not alive when the offenses occurred
6. Exclusionism- this can be as simple as not letting certain races be citizens or suppressing or preventing certain types of people, by age, race, sex, or moral, social, cultural, or philosophical affiliation, from getting into positions of influence including the media, academia, entertainment, or politics.
7. Immigration as Politics- Control of immigration in pursuit of exclusionist aims, which can include both preventing certain types of people from immigrating for reasons other than their merit and economic and security benefits or encouraging immigration of certain favored groups in order to suppress or overwhelm disfavored groups
8. Collective/Centralized Control of Labor- Everyone must work and/or be a member of a union or government controlled labor organization, as a policy that requires or calls for some form of collective contribution to society and that reduces individual choice in careers or business options by the use of regulations, tax policies, educational requirements, certifications, and etc.
9. Abolition of unearned income - "no rent-slavery" or some form of attack on the concept of profiting from capital investments, such as residual income, dividends, and etc. by means of tax policies, the way those who have residual income are portrayed, and other means
10. Nationalization of business- which can be direct and over or indirect and covert but which has the effect of having the political power in control of the policies of business including, but not limited to, outright ownership, regulation of pay, regulations that go beyond merely preventing fraud or unsafe practices, and the use of public money to support certain types of industries
11. Replacing Individual Initiative With Collective Goals- Division of profits based on some form of egalitarianism which can include redistribution of wealth by the state through progressive taxation, outright confiscation of profit, double taxing by taxing both profit and dividends, and demonization or those who receive profits, regardless of whether those profits were justly earned or not
12. State run retirement and old-age benefits- Extension of old age welfare and retirement controlled by the state with some form of control over the conditions of those benefits in pursuit of political policy or social engineering, which can include confiscating or regulating retirement accounts, forcing public participation in state run retirement programs, and management of health benefits for seniors which tend towards rationing in effect, if not in actual stated policy
13. Nationalization of Land- Land reform which tends to remove, reduce, or inhibit the private control over land and natural resources in favor of either the state or favored groups, often done in the name of helping the less well off, the poor, or the peasants but ultimately resulting in over 20% of ALL lands being under some form of public control and control over the use of natural resources as an extension of political policy rather than market demand
14. Criminalization of Opponents- Severe punishments of those who are considered to be bad or even criminal in an effort to socialize the populace to embrace the worldview of the rulers, often done in the name of law and order or security but in effect being designed for political control and suppression of dissent, which includes criminalizing opponents via investigations and accusations of policy decisions as criminals acts, regardless of the facts
15. Historical Revisionism- A disavowal of the existing heritage and philosophical underpinnings of the present legal system for a new idea-system as, for instance, resorting to some version of a nationalist legal code or to a new interpretation of an old legal code which often refutes the old code as not being adequate, just, or in the interest of the People, all towards the end of creating a justification for laws and policies that empower the rulers over the people.
16. Control over the Infotariate- control of the “Infotariate” of the media, education, and entertainment by regulation or discrimination against certain classes or groups and use of the Infotariate socialize people into "the NEW Way", be that based on a sense of racial identity or class identity or some form of new enlightenment which is to be forced on the People directly, by law, or indirectly by a system of inducements or control of benefits
17. Primacy of Educators Over Children- State control over education which aims to use education to socialize children in the "new way" and/or to find gifted children and funnel their talents for the use of the state along with the primacy of educators as socializing agents over parents
18. Primacy of The State Over Parents- Some form of “protection of children”, be it from child labor, abuse, or the out-dated ideas of their parents which places primary responsibility and authority for this in the hands of the state and its agents rather than the parents
19. Replacing THINKING With Entertainment and Fun- Focusing on entertainment, fun, and sports or physical fitness rather than logic, reason, science, and debate as a means of filling private time, especially for children, and thus preventing any serious questioning of the present system or its rulers
20. Merging of Military and Policing Powers- The creation of an army, militia, or civilian security force that is very large and that has functions that include protecting the state from external foes and internal dissent with both military and police powers and that acts as some means of indoctrinating young people and making them loyal adherents to the idea-system of the new rulers
21. Creation of the Welfare State- national fiscal, taxation, and regulatory policy based on a "duty" of the state to provide for its people, generally from birth to death, with corresponding regulatory and taxing powers to allocate resources and compel people, for instance, to have only so many children, to promote either abortion/birth control or mandatory procreation, or to have differing policies for different groups, so that one group shrinks and the other grows
22. Replacing “Individual Rights” With Collective Duty- Duty of individuals to the nation, the people, or the state which transcend or even replaces their individual rights or their duties to their God, their conscience, their family, and etc.
